Director

Fabian's current work focuses on alternative technological modes for collective creativity. He collaborates with diverse communities to generate reflexive media systems emphasizing cultural and locative specificity. Jeff Burke

Executive Director

Jeff is the Director of Technology Research Initiatives for the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.  He helped to start and co-directs REMAP. His research explores (usually by building things) how emerging technologies can serve expressive and social goals. He is interested in creating new relationships among media, performer, audience, and the built environment, and in particular how technology can better support creative authorship of 'systems' and not just 'content'.

Jeff Thompson

Staff Software Engineer

Jeff has been a staff software engineer for the Name Data Networking (NDN) project since 2013. As an undergraduate, he studied computer science and electrical engineering at MIT. His Masters work was in microrobotics and automation at the UC Berkeley Biomimetic Millisystems Lab.

Peter Gusev

Staff Software Engineer

Peter has been with REMAP since July 2013. He is focusing primarily on Named Data Networking (NDN), and is leading the development of NDN-RTC, a real-time conferencing tool. In addition to NDN, Peter has contributed to a wide range of interactive audiovisual projects, including Grace Plains. He holds master's degrees from Bauman Moscow State Technical University and Wroclaw University of Technology.

Zoe Sandoval

Field Project Manager

At REMAP, Zoe organizes and coordinates various projects such as the Future Storytelling Summer Institute, the LASHP Trails mobile website with IMLab, and the Internet Architecture program Named Data Networking. Other work has included producing and managing the Google Glass experiences, Grace Plains and Bodies for a Global Brain.

Taylor Fitz-Gibbon

Lead Researcher, IMLab

As a recent graduate of UCLA's Masters in Urban and Regional Planning program, Taylor is interested in how the built environment can become more flexible and participatory. He has worked with REMAP intermittently for several years, but was brought on full-time in late 2013 to focus on REMAP's innovative partnership with the Los Angeles State Historic Park (LASHP): the Interpretive Media Laboratory (IMLab). Taylor serves as IMLab's lead researcher and manages the development of content for several projects including LASHP Trails and FLOW.

Jared J. Stein

Senior Researcher/Artist

Since 2001, Jared’s work with REMAP (then, UCLA’s HyperMedia Studio) has experimented with approaches emerging technologies offer theatre-making, multiplatform storytelling and the dramatic arts. He has contributed as a writer and advisor to several REMAP projects, and in 2012, co-directed the REMAP-RITL Workshop for Digital Media, Theater and Design.

Randy Illum

Graduate Student Researcher

Randy is a visual artist interested in the intersection of the arts, media, and technology - specifically how user interfaces affect our perception of the mediated world and built environment, or how one's interactions with technology in physical space will form their understanding of place. He holds a Bachelor's in Fine Art from Rutgers University, and studied Phenomenology for a brief time as a postbaccalaureate student at the University of Pennsylvania.

Ren Rong

Artist

A Singapore-based artist, Ren has contribued concept art and designs to several REMAP projects, including the IMLab, Eco-Interns, Interactive Digital Mural, and Recoding Innovation. She holds a BFA in Digital Animation from the School of Art, Design and Media at Nanyang Technological University.

Alessandro Marianantoni

Affiliated Researcher

Alessandro works on cultural, entertainment, environmental and social fields with emphasis on technology. He has produced several interactive installations exhibited between the USA and Europe, receiving public and private sponsorships. He studied Computer Science at the University of L’Aquila, with a thesis on perceptual interfaces at the USC Integrated Media System Center.

Alexander Horn

Staff Developer Emeritus

Alex Horn aka Nano grew from realtime video to specialize in information visualization, human computer interaction, embedded systems, and public interactive installation. Over the past 14 years he has installed work at Siggraph, FILE Sao Paolo, Chicago's lounges, nightclubs, and MCA, street festivals in New Orleans, Children's hospitals in St Louis & New York, and law offices and public schools in London.
